The
roof is usually the last item which is made during the construction
of a building, but it is the first one to preserve its value;
in fact a well built roof contributes in a decisive way to
the safeguard of the aesthetic and of the structures of the
building.
Traditionally used in North America and tested to withstand
extreme climatic situations, Bituminous Shingles represent
a technologically advanced roof - system, used with success
in many Countries of the world. They are made with a fibreglass
reinforcement saturated with oxidized bitumen, on which antiadhesive
fine sand is applied on the lower part and coloured mineral
granules on the exposed surface. These confer to the product
durability, resistance to atmospheric agents and ageing caused
by the U.V. rays.
The wide range of geometric shapes and available colours,
together with very limited maintenance requirements, make
the Bituminous Shingles a modern and extremely versatile system
of roofing which can satisfy the most various architectural
and landscape demands. They can be applied on various types
of substrate, on condition that it is smooth, solid and dry
(wooden boards, plywood, mixture of cement with light materials);
in the case of roofs with little slope (up to 15° = 27%),
one further waterproofing substrate should be made, applying
a bituminous membrane.
